Crime is down all over the county. In fact, both Chanhassen and Chaska have been named among the most livable of small cities in the country. Public safety has been an important identified component to that.
There are so many accomplishments I have had the privilege of working on in my role as a command staff member. We were the first agency in the country with the new trunked 800 MHz radio technologies for police, fire, public works and EMS. We have been a leader in Minnesota piloting a number of crime fighting projects. We need to continue to research and implement technology that will improve public safety in a cost effective manner.
Our contract policing services are regarded as a model throughout the state. We continually receive calls from counties and cities asking for our contracting information. Over the past 6 years our contracting partners have expanded or increased their local coverage, which has greatly improved our response and ability to detect and deter crime.
As a divisional leader in the Sheriff’s Office I have been proud of our ability to accomplish our public safety mission. We have been well within budget every year and continue to look for opportunities to find revenues in our jail operations, which offset our operating costs.
I want you to know your Sheriff’s Office is in a “good place.” As we continue to manage our public safety mission in these difficult financial times I want to assure you as sheriff I will be fiscally responsible with the limited resources provided to the Sheriff’s Office.
I filed for the Office of Sheriff because I want to carry on the mission you have come to know and respect over the past years. I ask for your support and look forward to meeting you on the campaign trail. I can be reached at www.olson4sheriff.com or by calling me personally at 952-567-1086.
Values
These are fundamental values that I strive to live by:
· We need to treat everyone with respect and dignity. We must recognize even during their most difficult times, everyone we deal with is someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, brother, or sister.
· We must be good stewards of the taxpayers money entrusted to us. The service we provide must be efficient and effective. Bigger does not always mean better.
· We are providing a service to the community and cannot forget that we work for them. Positive customer focus is a must.
I recognize the badge of the Sheriff’s Office as a symbol of public faith - faith that we will do the right thing, even when no one is looking, and faith that we will enforce the law in a non-biased and impartial way.
When interacting with the citizens we must never forget the impact that law enforcement has, both positive and negative, on individuals and families.
